About Prof. K. Umamaheshwar Rao: Prof. Rao joined as the Director of NIT Rourkela in February of 2022. Prior to joining NIT Rourkela, he served as the Director of the National Institute of Technology Karnataka. Prof. Rao has over 30 years in academia, both as faculty and in several administrative roles. Some of his important portfolios include Chairman (Estate), and Vice Chairman of Joint Entrance Examination (JEE). He was a faculty for almost three decades at IIT Kharagpur and was the Head of its Mining Engineering Department. He has a bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering from Osmania University, a master’s degree in Mining Engineering from IIT-BHU, and Ph.D. from IIT Kharagpur.
